Aerochem (ACM)

National Trends Network (NTN)

The ACM NTN collector has side-by-side 3.5-gallon high density polyethylene (HDPE) buckets, one labeled WET and the other labeled DRY on the instrument base. Between precipitation events a motor driven lid covers the wet-side bucket. The underside of this lid has a compressible pad (called a lid seal) that seals the wet-side bucket from exposure to the atmosphere. When precipitation occurs, a 7-grid sensor activates the motor, which moves the lid from the wet-side bucket to the dry-side bucket. While precipitation accumulates in the wet-side bucket, the dry-side bucket protects the lid seal from contamination by splash and dry deposition. The sensor is heated so that when precipitation ends, it dries and activates the motor to once again cover the wet-side bucket. For NTN, the purpose is to collect wet-deposition-only samples. The purpose of the lid seal is to protect these wet-deposition-only samples from evaporation and contamination by dry deposition.

Mercury Deposition Network (MDN)

The modified ACM MDN collector has side-by-side chimneys (WET side) and a single 3.5-gallon high density polyethylene (HDPE) bucket (DRY side). Between precipitation events a motor driven lid covers the wet-side chimneys. The underside of this lid has a compressible pad (called a lid seal) that seals the glass funnels from exposure to the atmosphere. When precipitation occurs, a 11-grid sensor activates the motor, which moves the lid from the wet-side chimneys to the dry-side bucket. While precipitation accumulates in the PETG bottles, the dry-side bucket protects the lid seal from contamination by splash and dry deposition. The sensor is heated so that when precipitation ends, it dries and activates the motor to once again cover the funnel(s). For MDN, the purpose is to collect wet-deposition-only samples. The purpose of the lid seal is to protect these wet-deposition-only samples from evaporation and contamination by dry deposition.

NCON Systems (NCON)

National Trends Network (NTN)

The NCON ADS NTN collector has one 3.5-gallon high density polyethylene (HDPE) buckets. Between precipitation events a motor driven lid covers the bucket. The underside of this lid has a compressible pad (called a lid seal) that seals the bucket from exposure to the atmosphere. When precipitation occurs, an infra-red sensor activates the motor, which moves the lid from the bucket to sit over the splash shield. While precipitation accumulates in the bucket, the splash shield protects the lid seal from contamination by ground splash. The sensor is heated so that when precipitation ends, it dries and activates the motor to once again cover the bucket. For NTN, the purpose is to collect and composite “wet only” samples of rain, snow and other precipitation. The purpose of the lid seal is to protect these wet-deposition-only samples from evaporation and contamination by dry deposition.

Mercury Deposition Network (MDN)

The NCON ADS MDN collector is available with either a single or dual chimney. The chimney can accommodate the glass funnel and thistle tube. Between precipitation events a motor driven lid covers the funnel (s). The underside of this lid has a compressible pad (called a lid seal) that seals the funnels from exposure to the atmosphere. When precipitation occurs, a Thies infra-red sensor activates the motor, which moves the lid from the funnels to sit over the splash shield. While precipitation accumulates in the PETG bottle, the splash shield protects the lid seal from contamination by ground splash. The sensor is heated so that when precipitation ends, it dries and activates the motor to once again cover the funnels. For MDN, the purpose is to collect and composite “wet only” samples of rain, snow and other precipitation. The purpose of the lid seal is to protect these wet-deposition-only samples from evaporation and contamination by dry deposition.
