Federal Government Reopens

As you are aware the federal government has reopened as of Wednesday November 12, 2025. If your site was impacted by the government shutdown and were unable to make site visits, ship samples, or receive samples, here are some recommendations for your next site visit:

    • Collect the NTN or MDN sample per usual protocols. Send in the sample, and make a note on the field form that it was an extended sample due to the government shutdown.
    • Empty the precipitation gauge if it is full or close to full. Winterize the collection chamber with antifreeze if required in your area. Recharge the antifreeze, if it was winterized prior to the government shutdown.
    • Check your inventory of supplies (i.e. NTN lids, bottles, bags, MDN coolers, etc., if you need supplies immediately call 1-800-952-7353 to request the supplies or email ntn@slh.wisc.edu or mdn@slh.wisc.edu.
    • If you have an AMoN sampler deployed since the start of the government shutdown. Change it out with the the 11/18/25 to 12/2/2025 sampler box. If you do not have one for that deployment period, call 1-800-952-7353 in order for the NAL to expedite a shipment. If you have any unused sampler boxes with October deployment dates, please use the return label in the box and ship back to the NAL. Note on the field form that it was not used due to government shutdown.
    • If you were holding samples because you were unable to ship with federal return shipping labels, those samples can now be shipped using those shipping labels.
    • If you provided us with an alternate address to ship supplies to during the government shutdown, please call or email us with the correct address to resume shipping supplies to.
